Başar Ay

Born in Amasya in 1965, Mr. Ay graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1989. After completing his legal internship, he began his professional career as a lawyer registered with the Istanbul Bar Association.

Mr. Ay joined the Turkish Textile Employers' Union in 1991 as Legal Counsel. He was appointed Deputy Secretary General in 2005 and Secretary General in 2007, and he continues to serve in this role today.

He is also registered with the Mediation Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkiye and listed in the UYAP conciliator registry. He completed the master's program in International Banking and Finance at the Finance Institute of Istanbul Commerce University.

Representing the Confederation of Turkish Employer Associations (TISK), Mr. Ay has served as a member of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, a member of the General Assembly of the Istanbul Arbitration Center (ISTAC), a member of the R&D Center Commission under the General Directorate of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Trade, and an employer delegate and representative at ISKUR.

He also serves as a member of the Istanbul Provincial Employment and Vocational Training Board, a member of the TUSIAD Informal Employment, Labor and Social Security Working Group, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the TISK Microsurgery and Reconstruction Foundation, an observer member of the Turkish Employers' Delegation to the International Labour Organization (ILO), and a member of Galatasaray Sports Club.

In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the Social Security Institution (SGK) for three years between 2019 and 2022 and as an Independent Board Member of AKSA Acrylic A.S. within Akkok Holding for six years.

At the 7th Ordinary General Assembly of the Social Security Institution held on December 27, 2024, he was elected to the Board of Directors as the representative of employers and continues to serve in this position.
